Indiana was not alone--there were 20 states represented in all, which brought over 200 business leaders to the capitol. The event was widely covered in the media, and several special visits were paid to the delegation by key representatives. The most compelling encouragement came from Senator Lindsay Graham (R, S. Carolina). (for the full story, see link #6 below) The state of Indiana lags behind most of our Midwestern neighbors when it comes to energy policies that encourage the deployment of clean energy generation. As a result, jobs in the clean energy sector in Indiana are seeing slow growth, with many practitioners living near borders with Ohio, Kentucky, or Michigan, so they can cross into those states to do their business. A policy at the federal level would help minimize the differences between state policies, and spur growth of clean energy jobs in Indiana, not just around indiana. Visit www.powerupindiana.org This group was formed in an effort to organize Hoosiers who support climate change/clean energy legislation. As there is a huge variation in organizations supporting these efforts, this generic website has been a means of coordinating church groups, labor groups, businesses and environmentalists to one site, to provide a combined voice.
